WEBER TO HOLDER: DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS
Washington, DC,
July 25, 2013
In a speech to the National Urban League in Philadelphia, US Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Department of Justice will attempt to force Texas to obtain pre-clearance before changing their voting laws. Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) made the following statement: “Texas has a long-standing track record proving we work hard to ensure fair and open elections. The Supreme Court’s decision on June 25 to overturn the pre-clearance provision made it clear that the law should not single out specific states for excessive treatment. Texas does not need the Federal government, especially Eric Holder, telling us what we can and cannot do with our voting laws. We have three branches of government to provide a check and balance. Nowhere in the Constitution is the United States Attorney General given the authority to force his hand upon the states. The Supreme Court has ruled, and that should be reason enough for Mr. Holder to stay out of Texas.” ### |
