President Obama is hitting the trail today, making his way to Galesburg, IL to speak on the status of the United States economy and job market. Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) made the following statement:

“The President’s series of speeches on the economy and jobs are a chance to pivot the attention away from his administration that is ridden with scandal and his onerous healthcare. It was the President’s treasury department that put out a notice, on July 2, explaining how they would proceed with a delay of the employer mandate because it was very complex. However, when the House acted to dismantle both the employer and individual mandate, the President backtracked and blamed House Republicans.

There are 11.8 million people who are out of work. There are 2.2 million fewer people employed and 1.6 million less private sector jobs than when Obama first took office. Instead of working with Congress to cultivate a pro-business environment and getting jobs back; he is selling empty rhetoric on how to put Americans back to work. The President is actually making it harder for job creators to hire new employees because of his onerous healthcare regulations, and by proposing costly new regulations on power plants that provide energy to millions of Americans and small businesses.

Americans deserve a strong economy and a secure future. That’s why I implore the President to jumpstart our stale economy by approving the Keystone XL Pipeline permit now. This project will put Americans back to work and on a path toward energy independence and security.”
