Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) named Congressman Randy Weber (R-TX) Vice-Chair for the Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations subcommittee.

“As a member of the Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations subcommittee it is a great privilege to be named Vice-Chair,” said Congressman Randy Weber. “This committee is working diligently to promote human rights, combat global human trafficking and enhance our regional stability around the world, leading to greater security for our nation and economy. I want to thank Chairman Royce for his confidence in me. As Vice-Chair, I will work hard to promote the Foreign Affairs committee’s goals.”

“I am pleased to name Congressman Randy Weber as Vice Chair of the Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations subcommittee,” said House Foreign Affairs Chairman, Rep. Ed Royce.  “Weber brings a fresh perspective as our Committee continues its efforts to promote democracy and the rule of law in Africa, focuses on the growing terrorist presence there, and combats human rights abuses around the globe.  He is a valuable addition to our leadership team.” 

The Subcommittee has jurisdiction over matters affecting the political and legislative relationship between the United States and other countries and regions with Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to its regional jurisdiction, the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations, has oversight of international health and population issues, the United Nations and its affiliated agencies, international cultural and educational programs and exchanges, the American Red Cross, and the Peace Corps.  Additionally, the Subcommittee will have legislation and oversight of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including legislation aimed at the promotion of human rights and democracy generally, as well as the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, and related issues.
