Weber - 'Democrats Prioritize Politics Over Dignity of the House'
Washington,
July 16, 2019
Washington D.C. – On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H. Res. 489, a resolution condemning President Donald Trump. After voting against the resolution, Congressman Randy Weber (R - Friendswood) released the following statement:
“I am tired of the constant politics of personal destruction. Disagreeing on policy decisions does not, nor should not equate to hate speech. The irony of Democrat leadership offering a resolution condemning President Trump but failing to do the same regarding multiple Democrat members offering hate-filled rhetoric -- including calling for physical attacks against the President, his family and Cabinet Members -- is not lost on me. Democrats have done little this Congress beyond investigate the President and attack Republicans, with no actionable results. Instead, they are prioritizing politics over upholding the rules, precedents and dignity of the people’s House. In fact, the personal attacks towards President Trump in the text of this legislation would be a breach of decorum if read by a Member on the House Floor. Time and again, President Trump has been vilified by Democrats in Congress. He has been profaned, mocked, harassed and threatened, with Democrat leadership allowing it to continue. Certainly, President Trump’s tweet from this weekend could have been better worded. However, it is also easy to understand the frustration aimed at Members who vilify both the Trump family and the United States. To suddenly say that this tweet is deserving of legislative action, but the multitude of hate-filled public statements, social media comments and incitement by Members is not, is the height of hypocrisy and double-standards. Once again, Democrat party politics outweighs good policy decisions. It is time to move past political attacks and get to work on the people’s business.” ### |
