League City Native Joins Congressman Weber at State of the Union

From left to right: Lieutenant Commander James Garman, from League City and Congressman Randy Weber Congressman Randy Weber hosted Lieutenant Commander James Garman, a native of League City, as his guest to the 2013 State of the Union. Lieutenant Garman was born at the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. After his father retired from the United States Navy, the Garman family moved to League City in 1981. After graduating from Clear Creek High School in 1987, he attended College of the Mainland for one year before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, ultimately serving in Desert Storm. Returning to League City in 1992, Garman attended San Jacinto College obtaining his Associates in Biology before transferring to the University of Houston, Clear Lake graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science in 1997. During his time back home, he served in the Naval Reserves and as a volunteer firefighter for the League City Volunteer Fire Department. From 1994-1997, Lieutenant Commander Garman worked for the University of Texas Health Science Center in the environmental health and safety department. In 1998, Garman received a commission in the Navy Medical Service Corps and has been on active duty ever since. Currently, Lieutenant Commander Garman works for the Navy Surgeon General in Falls Church, Virginia. “I’m happy to have met Lieutenant Commander Garman,” said Congressman Randy Weber (R - Alvin). “I thank him for his service to our country and his continued commitment to our Nation’s military.” ### |
