Weber Votes to Protect State Healthcare Waivers

WASHINGTON D.C. – On Thursday, May 9, 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.R. 986. After the vote, Congressman Randy Weber (R - Friendswood) released the following statement:
“The truth is this bill has nothing to do with actually protecting pre-existing conditions. It’s a messaging piece filled with partisan politics. Its title is blatantly misleading. “At its root, this bill limits the ability of states to explore ways to reduce healthcare costs and expand coverage. The Section 1332 waivers, restricted in this bill, have the potential to become a powerful tool for healthcare innovation, but my Democratic colleagues would rather push a top-down, one-size-fits-all system that we know is not working for everyday Americans. To improve healthcare marketplaces and expand coverage, we must lower prices and increase consumer choice. This bill would do neither. "We cannot keep eliminating choices and competition while expecting the cost of healthcare to go down. We must allow individuals to have options and make their own decisions. Government-run, centralized healthcare will be a great detriment to ensuring Americans receive the healthcare they need, at a reasonable price, by a doctor they prefer." ### |
