Weber Condemns Anti-Semitism

Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, March 7, 2019, the U.S. House voted on a Resolution condemning anti-Semitism. The resolution passed by a vote of 407 to 23. Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:

“Anti-Semitism is completely abhorrent. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s behavior is unacceptable and inexcusable. The fact that we are here again, only a few weeks after a round of anti-Semitic tweets, shows insincerity in her apology, only made following public outcry. We’ve given her more than enough chances.

“This resolution wasn’t as strong as I would like. In a Democrat attempt to protect Omar, the resolution failed to mention her by name and watered down a very important and powerful message – anti-Semitism is wrong in all forms. I agree with some of my Democrat colleagues that this resolution should have focused specifically on the issue of anti-Semitism as it arises from a need to rebuke comments made by a fellow member.

“Allow me to add, if we insist on discussing all hatred, then anti-Christian bias should have been included. As the highest deliberative body in the land, it is incumbent upon Members of Congress to take a stand. I voted for the resolution today because I choose to stand with my colleagues in the House to say that hatred is always, unequivocally wrong and must never be allowed to flourish.”
