Weber Votes to Protect 2nd Amendment Rights, Law Abiding Citizens
Washington,
February 27, 2019
Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.R. 8 – the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) was among the 190 members who voted against the bill. After the vote, Congressman Weber released the following statement:
“My district knows the pain of gun violence in a severely acute way. On May 18, 2018, at Santa Fe High School, a shooter took the lives of 10 innocent people and injured 13 more. H.R. 8 would have done nothing to prevent this violent crime. “This bill does nothing to address the root of any problem related to gun violence. It does nothing to address the mental health crisis. It does nothing to prevent criminals from acquiring firearms. “Instead, it puts the burden of evil on good people, unaffiliated to any potential crime. It makes activities like hunting prime ground for unknowing violations of the statues in this bill. It turns self-defense into a greater burden than it already is. “The Bipartisan Background Checks Act is not bipartisan at all. It serves only to make it harder for law abiding citizens to practice their 2nd Amendment right. I am disappointed to see so many of my colleagues push this legislation to the Senate, and I hope our colleagues in the Senate see this bill clearly for the farce it really is.” ### |
