Weber Statement on U.S. - North Korea Summit

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, President Donald Trump met with the Chairman of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at the historic Singapore Summit. Following the Summit, Congressman Randy Weber released the following statement:

“The summit was historic. For decades, we have sought solutions to end the North Korean regime's despotic, reprehensible behavior. All we received were empty promises. With this summit, new actions were taken, which could lead to the positive results we hope to see. I commend the President for his bold actions as he leads this mission of peace in the Korean peninsula.

“In the meantime, we must continue to keep our economic sanctions tight, reaffirm our security expectations, and work with our allies to hold North Korea accountable. Notably, there is also a need for basic human rights – millions of North Koreans suffer daily under this regime. Though there is still a lot of work to be done, I am hopeful the steps taken by this Administration are steps in the right direction and will lead to the outcome we all seek: Lasting peace.”
