Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2018 passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support. The authorization of improvements to our water resource infrastructure ensures these various structures are given the attention and maintenance needed to operate properly and efficiently. Following the passage of WRDA, Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:

“WRDA works for many reasons. On the parliamentary level, it maintains regular order, and more importantly, on the practical level, it maintains our ports, waterways, locks, dams, flood protection infrastructure, and more. Water infrastructure must be constructed and maintained as a matter of economic competitiveness and national security.

“Along the Texas Gulf Coast, WRDA works by authorizing the construction of levees in our counties. As we have recently seen, when water rises, it can rise quickly. Levee systems work to keep the water at bay and our homes and families safe. Additionally, WRDA recognizes the need for channel improvements to Galveston Harbor. An appropriate navigable depth is essential to the transportation of goods domestically and internationally. Our district will see the direct, positive effects of WRDA 2018 authorizations and projects. We know water infrastructure well with our five ports, miles of navigable inland waterways, and awareness of flood protection and prevention.

“I’m thrilled WRDA passed the House with such bipartisan support, and I’m hopeful the Senate will soon take up this legislation and do the same.”
