Weber Statement on Santa Fe Tragedy

Washington, D.C. – On Friday, May 18, 2018, shortly before 8 a.m. CT, a shooter opened fire in Santa Fe High School. The shooter had a shotgun and .38 revolver; explosives were also found on and off campus. Ten people have lost their lives, many others are injured, and the situation is still unfolding. Santa Fe is located just south of Houston, in Galveston County. The area is represented by Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood). Congressman Weber released the following statement:

“Earlier today, the unimaginable happened: Santa Fe High School became the scene of a mass shooting. Ten people have lost their lives; many others are injured.

“This affected our entire community. My heart goes out to the students, faculty, and their families. I am grateful for the strong and swift response of our first responders, especially for the actions taken by the school resource officers.

“The students and teachers acted quickly and calmly to secure their rooms, and our law enforcement agents worked selflessly to secure the situation. Bravery on the ground saved many lives.

“Santa Fe is a salt of the Earth community. They are Texas tough. We will grieve together; we will remember together; and we will move forward together. My office and I are working closely with local, state, and school officials. Our entire team is here, offering our full support and assistance to the community. My heart is heavy for Santa Fe.”
