Washington, D.C. – On Friday, January 19, 2018, Senate Democrats voted against the continuing resolution, thereby shutting down the government. Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:
“Last night the Senate Democrats had a choice – fund CHIP, provide tax relief, support the military, and keep the government open. They chose shutdown. They voted against children, against the military, and against our country. This is outrageous. This is unacceptable. “We need to separate politics from policy, and focus on the priorities and deadlines at hand. We have a job to do.” ### Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides insurance to 9 million American children. In the Senate, 60 votes are needed to pass a bill of this nature. There are 51 Republicans in the Senate. Democrats are vital for passage of the bill. |
