Washington, D.C. – Earlier this week, the U.S. House of Representatives sent the Hurricane Harvey relief funding bill to the Senate. The Senate added a debt ceiling increase and continuing resolution to the package. Today, the House voted 316 to 90 in favor of the modifications. Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:

“Already, nearly 700,000 residents have registered for federal disaster assistance. Texas 14 is ground zero for devastation. Water still remains in many homes. Just today, several cities finally lifted evacuation bans, allowing people to return home.

I will do everything in my power to help Texans get back on their feet. The assistance for FEMA in this package is critical, necessary, and only just the beginning. We can expect additional relief packages in the near future.

While I am not happy with the addition of the debt ceiling increase and continuing resolution language to the Harvey relief package, they are temporary, and this assistance matters more. The memories of people’s lives and their families last forever. That’s what matters most. We will have time to address those other issues in December.”
