2015 Congressional Art Competition Winner Announced

League City, TX – Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) held a reception Monday night to honor Christina Rasmussen, a junior from Clear Springs High School, as this year’s Congressional Art Competition winner.

“Watercolor with abstract simplicity, yet complicated, form has always fascinated me,” said Christina. “I love to incorporate movement in my pieces by using subtle colors and a variety of brushstrokes. The style used in this specific piece is one of my favorites, because of the sheer looseness and freedom of it. To have received this award is a great honor, and I am truly thankful. This recognition further inspires me to create artworks that express who I am and connect with others.”

Christina loves to paint and draw. Her favorite medium is watercolor and the occasional pen. When she is not sitting in her room for hours creating artworks, you can probably find her at the barn. A lover of horseback riding, she adores spending time with her horse Daphne. Christina is trilingual and travels often to visit her extended family around the world.

“Christina Rasmussen is a straight A-student, who has received the CCISD Superintendent’s Scholar Award three years in a row,” said Lisette McClung, Clear Springs High School Art Teacher. “She is currently taking the AP Studio Art course, and has received two Scholastic Gold Keys and the HCDE Superintendent Award for her artwork. Christina is a very talented student in the visual arts that is only enhanced by her passion and commitment to exceed expectations. She is very interested in studying science and engineering after graduating from high school next year.”

“What an honor and privilege to meet and spend time with Christina, a bright young student who has a passion for art, education, and her family,” said Rep. Randy Weber. Christina’s artwork will be a nice addition to the tunnel leading to the Capitol, and will be a wonderful reminder of the talent we have in Texas District 14. I would like to thank Christina’s family and art teacher for supporting and encouraging Christina to participate in this competition. I wish Christina much success in school and her future endeavors, wherever they may take her.”
