On Wednesday, May 1, the judging for the 2013 Congressional Art Competition took place.  There were 14 entries submitted this year from high school students throughout the 14th district.  The winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition is Clear Creek High School Senior, Sara Gerke.  She used mixed medium technique and the piece is titled “In Between the Lines.”

The schools included: Angleton High School, Brazoswood High School, Clear Creek High School, Columbia High School, La Marque High School, Sabine Pass High School, Santa Fe High School, and two home-schooled students from Brazoria County.

The judges for this year’s competition were, Joe Keith Ripple, Director of Flood Planes for Brazoria County and a civic leader; Lillie Alcala, Past President and member of the Brazosport Art League; and Ezster Weress, Former Art Teacher for Angleton High School and a local artist.

“I would like to thank the talented young artists for participating, as well as the judges who volunteered their time,” said Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood). “It’s great to see that we have such talented young folks in the district, who are not only gifted in the arts, but take pride in all their studies.”
