House Passes Critical Gitmo Legislation
Washington, DC,
September 15, 2016
Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 5351, to prohibit the transfer of any individual detained at Guantanamo Bay: The bill prohibits any funds from being used to transfer or release an individual detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to the United States or a foreign country until the end of the year or enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for the fiscal year 2017. “It’s important for everyone to understand that those detained in Guantanamo are dangerous, hateful and vengeful terrorists who only mean to do harm against America and our allies. The Administration has no business transferring or releasing any detainees. The President has circumvented Congress twice already. The House has taken action to prevent any other transgressions the President intends to commit before his time is up in the White House.” ### |
