Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) introduced H.R. 5225, the Corps’ Obligation to Assist in Safeguarding Texas (COAST) Act in the House of Representatives today and made the following statement:

“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun a comprehensive feasibility study of the Texas coast called the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study. This critical study will generate the large coastal protection projects necessary to protect our state against the next big storm. However, my constituents have voiced concerns that the current 5.5 year timeline to complete the study is far too long, which is why this legislation and full funding for this effort so important.

The COAST Act will help expedite this study and any potential infrastructure projects that it will support. I will continue my work in the House to actively engage with other Members of Congress on this issue to fully fund this study every year until completion, ensuring that it remains on track without any delays.

Congressman Weber’s introduced legislation is the House companion to Senator John Cornyn’s (R-Texas) legislation, S. 2856, in the Senate.
