Congressman Randy Weber (R-TX14) released the following statement on his recent co-sponsorship of the State Refugee Security Act of 2015, authored by fellow Texan Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX02):
“More than half the Governors across the United States made the decision to put the safety of their citizens first by refusing to resettle Syrian refugees within their borders. The federal government has ignored these requests and started the resettlement of 21 refugees in Indiana and Texas. In order to help these states, I’ve co-sponsored legislation authored by my neighbor Congressman Poe, which will give more power to Governors by requiring at least 21 days’ notice before a refugee is resettled in their state. The bill will also allow states to reject the resettlement of the refugees if they can certify that the federal government has failed to provide assurances that the refugees do not pose a security threat. This is common sense legislation that allows Governors to do their job and do what is best for their states.”
