Weber Acts to Strengthen Visa Waiver Program
Washington, DC,
December 8, 2015
Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Program Improvement Act of 2015: “The Visa Waiver Program Improvement Act will strengthen security measures to ensure individuals entering the U.S. through the program are not security risks, in part by prohibiting aliens who are nationals of, or who on or after March 1, 2011, have been present at a time in Iraq, Syria, or a country designated as a state sponsor of terror. We must take every action to prevent any bad actors from entering the United States who wish to do harm upon innocent Americans, and this legislation is a step in the right direction.” The Visa Waiver Program allows nationals from certain countries to enter the United States as temporary visitors for up to 90 days without first obtaining a visa from a U.S. consulate abroad. Currently there are 37 countries in the VWP. ### |
