Today, the United States House of Representatives passed the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015 (H.R. 4038). This legislation will not allow Syrian or Iraqi refugees into the U.S. until the American people’s representatives in Congress receive certifications from key agencies verifying that these refugees do not pose a security threat. These certifications must be submitted by the Secretary of Homeland Security, FBI Director, and the Director of National Intelligence. The measure passed by a vote of 289 to 137. Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood), a co-sponsor of the legislation, made the following statement:

“Despite warnings from top national security officials and the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, President Obama continues to move forward with his plan to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees into the United States over the coming year. To thwart the President’s efforts, the House took action to prevent Syrian or Iraqi refugees from entering the United States until we receive unanimous certification from the Secretary of Homeland Security, the FBI Director and the Director of National Intelligence. The risk is too great, and I refuse to put Americans in danger. It’s time to put America first.”
