Rep. Weber Announces 2023 Art Competition Winner

Friendswood, TX - U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) announced that Soobin Lim, a senior at Friendswood High School, is the overall winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Texas' 14th District.

Soobin's piece, titled "Shoemaker," is an acrylic painting inspired by a man at a street market in Korea. Her artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol as part of this year's national exhibit. 

"Soobin's skill and creativity are evident in her artwork," said Rep. Weber. "We're honored to have her amazing artistic talent representing Texas' 14th District in the United States Capitol. I thank every student who submitted artwork this year. The talent was outstanding."

2nd Place “Starving Artist” by J Dynne Illa from Port Neches-Groves High School.

3rd Place “Three Chicks” by Amorette Garcia from Friendswood High School.

4th Place “Precision” by Remy Keller from Lutheran South Academy.

The artwork of these other finalists will be displayed in Rep. Weber’s district offices.

About the Congressional Art Competition

Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors an art competition for high school students. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
