Are You Prepared for Severe Weather?

Today is national PrepareAthon Day, which is an initiative by FEMA to bring awareness and encourage families to prepare for severe weather and other hazards.

“Severe weather can strike at any time. Life or death could be determined by your preparedness,” said Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood). “I’m encouraging my constituents to take the time to stock up on necessary items, have an evacuation plan, and practice with their family on what to do and how to react in an emergency situation.”

For anyone interested in learning more regarding the necessary steps to be better prepared for violent storm weather, the Texas Department of Public Safety has a portion of their site dedicated to severe weather awareness. Everyone can also visit ready.gov to learn how to prepare a “ready kit” and formulate a plan so families can communicate effectively and efficiently in an emergency.

“I cannot stress enough how important planning and preparation improve the ability to save lives and property. Texas 14 has many communities along the Gulf Coast. It is critical that everyone is properly educated and prepared, especially during the spring and summer months when we see a greater chance of damaging thunderstorms, hurricanes, hail storms, high winds, tornadoes and flooding”
