Washington, D.C. -Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) joined 15 of his colleagues in a press conference at the U.S. Capitol, calling for the impeachment of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Rep. Andy Biggs introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas for his willful disregard of the laws of the United States, releasing inadmissible aliens into the interior of the country, and failing to secure and maintain operational control of the southern border, which Rep. Weber co-sponsored.

Weber’s remarks as prepared are below.

“For the last two years, Secretary Mayorkas has rolled out the red carpet for illegals to enter our country, endangering EVERY single American. Our nation is facing the worst border crisis we have ever seen as a direct result of his failures. These include increases in criminal gang activity, human trafficking, and drug smuggling happening every single day at the southern border.”

“House Republicans haven't turned a blind eye to what is happening at our southern border. We are yelling from the rooftops that communities around my great home state of Texas are falling victim to the crisis happening at our southern border, that tons of fentanyl have poured across the border, killing our children.  Enough is enough.”

“Under oath, Secretary Mayorkas has insisted that there was no such crisis and that our border is secure.  Clearly, these are lies.  Before Congress. Clearly, these are grounds for impeachment.”

“Let's get something straight…no one is buying the "border is secure" line because IT IS NOT SECURE. Nothing screams “secure” like 4.5 million illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.  Did I mention, illegally?”

“Secretary Mayorkas' willful disregard for the laws of the United States by releasing inadmissible aliens into the interior of the country and failing to secure and maintain operational control of our southern border has led us here today to call for his impeachment.”

“We are done sitting back and watching the Biden administration's failures, including those of the Secretary of Homeland Security.  The times—and the crimes—demand Secretary Mayorkas’ impeachment.”
