Rep. Weber votes for Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act

Washington, D.C. - Today, the United States House of Representatives voted on H.R 22, the Protecting America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) from China Act, which passed by a vote of 331-97. H.R. 22 would stop the Biden administration from continuing this dangerous practice by preventing the Secretary of Energy from selling any products from the SPR to any entity owned or under the control or influence of the CCP or any other entity that intends to export the products to China. Rep. Weber spoke on the House Floor in support of this bill.

"The Biden administration is draining America's SPR to cover up the disastrous efforts of its anti-American energy agenda and it is reckless,” said Rep. Weber. "President Biden raided the SPR and sold more than 250 million barrels for short-term political gain. Worse, he had the audacity to sell barrels to China to boost their domestic reserve—which is now almost three times as full as our SPR. My congressional district, Texas' Fourteenth, holds 60% of our nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This issue is very personal to me. And it's a matter of National Security. It is time to stop the sale of our SPR to China, and we voted to do that today."
