Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber was appointed to serve on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. It is the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and is vested with the broadest jurisdiction of any congressional authorizing committee. The committee is responsible for telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health and research, environmental quality, energy policy, and interstate and foreign commerce, among others. "It is an honor to join the historic Energy and Commerce Committee and help to shape key policy in Congress,” said Rep. Weber. “My gulf coast district is an energy powerhouse with seven ports, seven of America's largest petroleum refineries, three LNG plants, and 60% of the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Texas' 14 Congressional District will bring an important perspective to the committee, where we represent the energy industry workers, plant managers and families. I look forward to fighting for American energy dominance AGAINST the radical green new deal policies that leave America begging for oil from foreign dictators. The Energy and Commerce Committee will hold the Biden administration accountable and work to solve important issues for hardworking Americans. I look forward to working with my colleagues and for the American people." “I am excited and proud to welcome Rep. Weber to the House Energy and Commerce Committee," said Chair Rodgers. "We will be at the forefront of House Republicans’ efforts to restore public trust in representative government. Americans have elected us to hold the line against Biden’s agenda. They want a different path, one that promotes free markets, innovation, free speech, and individual freedom. We stand ready to plow the hard ground necessary to legislate, hold the Biden administration accountable, and restore American leadership.” Issues under the Energy and Commerce Committee's jurisdiction include:
