Rep. Weber votes to defund 87,000 IRS Agents

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) votes for the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act. This bill rescinds funding for the IRS that had been made available through the Inflation Reduction Act to hire 87,000 more IRS agents to harass and spy on low-income- and middle-class Americans. The IRS should be focused on providing quality service to taxpayers, not targeting them.

“Democrats’ scheme to double the size of the IRS—making it larger than the Pentagon, State Department, Border Patrol, and FBI combined—by hiring an army of 87,000 new agents to spy on Americans was a disgrace,” said Rep. Weber. “We promised our constituents that the first thing would do in a Republican majority would be to stop the lunacy of the left from hiring 87,000 IRS agents, and we did just that. We are ending the Democrats’ Orwellian “IRS Surveillance” program. The IRS should serve hard-working Americans, NOT the other way around.”
