Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) released the following statement regarding his vote for House Speaker. “I voted in support of Kevin McCarthy to become the next Speaker of the House. Kevin McCarthy has a plan to get our nation back on track. He is the Architect of the Commitment to America. A commitment that puts AMERICA first. A commitment that will secure our border, will unleash American energy, fight inflation, reduce spending, and ensure that we hold our broken government accountable. I am no stranger to voting against speakers. I didn’t vote for Speaker John Boehner or Paul Ryan in Congress because they were not the right fit to lead the Republican Conference. I believe Kevin McCarthy is the right fit to lead the Republican Party. Washington has been broken for far too long, and this is a good reminder that democracy is alive. Debate is healthy for our Republic. We have had many conversations and negotiations that led up to this vote, and I believe Kevin McCarthy will do an excellent job leading our conference. I look forward to the most important challenges ahead, getting back to work for Texas’ Fourteenth Congressional District and the American people.” |
