Rep. Weber votes against Democrats' bloated spending spree

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) released the following statement after voting against the omnibus package that doubles down on the very failed Far Left agenda that the American people have already rejected, and rubber stamps the Democrats' agenda for years to come.

"In the dead of night, a small handful of members behind closed doors negotiated a massive 4,000-page spending bill that will hamstring the American taxpayers with another $1.7 trillion of debt,” said Rep. Weber.“Lame Duck Democrats' bloated omnibus does NOT properly address our nation's historic border crisis, rein in wasteful government spending, unleash American energy dominance, or uphold government accountability. It does the complete opposite and puts more fuel to the fire of every single crisis under the Biden administration. Any Republican that voted for this omnibus voted for nine more months of the Biden agenda.”

"Our nation is reeling from the effects of fiscal recklessness by Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, and this is Washington's solution – more spending. Our grandchildren will be paying for the reckless liberal wish list. Clearly, a vote for this monstrosity was a slap in the face to every taxpayer. This is Washington at its worst."

A few of the troubling spending provisions:

  • $47.3 billion for Ukraine-related assistance
  • $12.319 billion for the Internal Revenue Service, on top of the nearly $80 billion provided to the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act.
  • A 12% increase for climate research for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
  • 9% increase for the National Labor Relations Board, which has operated with flat funding since 2010.
  • $3.46 billion for renewable energy programs at the Department of Energy, a historic high.
  • $13 billion increase for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program due to inflation caused by the Administration's disastrous policies and never ending "COVID public health emergency."
  • 22% increase for Climate Adaptation Science Centers at the U.S. Geological Survey.
  • 125% increase in loan authority for the Presidio Trust, a parochial priority of Speaker Pelosi.
  • $65 million increase for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which has produced materials promoting terrorism and anti-Semitism, on top of regular contributions.
  • $410 million for border security in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman.
