Weber Issues Statement on Release of Alan Gross and U.S. - Cuba Relations
Washington, DC,
December 17, 2014
Representative Randy Weber (R-Friendswood), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the following statement on the release of Alan Gross and policy changes toward Cuba: “It is great to learn of the return of Alan Gross from Cuba, where he was wrongly held by the Castro Regime for five years. I am however, troubled with the lack of dialogue between Congress and the President’s Administration. There was absolutely no communication regarding the prisoner swap and the numerous policy changes to current policy. A troubling trend is happening with the President in his willingness to negotiate with terrorist organizations and hostile government regimes without consulting Congress. The President needs to come to Congress moving forward with anymore policy changes that greatly affect this nation’s economy and well-being. These policy changes will have a direct impact on Southeast Texas, including economic ones. I will stay active in the debate particularly through my role on the Foreign Affairs Committee to ensure that what's done is in the best interests of Texas District 14.” |
