Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding the Port of Port Arthur a $13.6 million federal grant through the FY 2022 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) discretionary grant program. The RAISE grant program provides funding for surface transportation projects of local and regional significance. This $13.6 million grant will add flexibility to multimodal freight transportation capabilities, reduce congestion, and increase transportation safety and air quality. The project will increase the Port's efficiency, reducing truck and vessel dwell while improving the Port's multimodal cargo handling capabilities and promoting local jobs. "This is welcome news for Port Arthur. Our ports here in southeast Texas—and the petrochemical and maritime industries they support—are critical to the economic success of the United States, not just our region," said Rep. Weber. “This project will create new jobs and economic opportunities for Port Arthur." “This award and recognition for the Port of Port Arthur is deeply appreciated,” said John Comeaux, President, Board of Commissioners. “The investment goes a long way to support transportation efficiencies while creating local jobs and revitalizing Port Arthur.” The USDOT RAISE grant is awarded on a competitive process,” said Larry Kelley, Port Director/CEO, Port of Port Arthur. “It focuses on improving supply chain resiliency while improving conditions in our port community.” |
