Texas GOP to Obama: Stop the Surge

Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood), along with the entire Texas Republican delegation, sent a letter to President Obama imploring him to address the crisis on the border.

In the letter, Texas members urged the President to take five actions in an effort to stem the tide of illegal entry into the United States:

  1. Suspend his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order,
  2. End the catch-and-release policy that gives a free pass to convicted criminal immigrants,
  3. Improve cooperation with local law enforcement agencies,
  4. Stop immigration fraud, and
  5. Expedite the process and removal illegal immigrants who are detained on the border.

“The President has the constitutional authority to stop the surge and secure the border right now,” said Congressman Weber. “However, he continues to wait, sending the message that there will be no deterrent if you successfully make it to the United States border. His failure to execute the laws of the land puts our country at great risk. I encourage the President to heed our warnings and take action now.”

Congressman Weber has been a leader on the issue of the recent crisis on the border. In an effort to stopgap the influx of unaccompanied children, Weber authored and introduced H.R. 5014, the Illegal Entry Accountability Act of 2014, which would immediately suspend U.S. foreign aid to Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. This past weekend he traveled to McAllen, Texas where he made several visits to the border, and spoke with Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.
