REP. WEBER STATEMENT ON DEADLY INCIDENT AT BEAUMONT FEDERAL PRISON

Washington, D.C. - Monday, May 2, 2022. U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) released a statement on the deadly incident that occurred yesterday at Beaumont Federal Prison.

"On May 1, 2022, an inmate lost his life and another was injured at United States Penitentiary Beaumont.  Thanks to the quick actions of our brave correctional officers, the incident was contained before more lives were endangered.  As I have previously said, regarding the incident on January 31, 2022, instances of prison violence are not always avoidable, but conditions that lead to a dangerous work environment are.  I have received an update from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), and I will continue to monitor the situation closely.

"In my letter to BOP Director Michael Carvajal, I reiterated my concern that chronic understaffing at our facility is a major problem that needs to be addressed by the BOP.  Doing so will lead to better and safer conditions for our correctional officers and inmates."
