Weber Votes to Protect Local Fisheries
Washington, DC,
May 30, 2014
Last night, the House voted on House Amendment 756, which would prohibit the use of funds to develop, approve, or implement any new limited access privilege program for fisheries on the East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico. “The Texas Gulf Coast, the area I proudly represent, has a strong fishing heritage,” said Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood). “Recreational and commercial fishing support nearly 40,000 jobs in my state and generates $4.2 billion in sales. I’ve talked to fishermen in my district and they are against the Southerland Amendment. They don’t believe that bureaucrats in Washington DC should be telling regional councils and local fishermen how to manage our fisheries.” To hear the rest of the Congressman’s speech against the Southerland amendment, click here.
