Texas City Oil Spill Update
Washington, DC,
March 26, 2014
Congressman Weber made the following the statement regarding the status of the Texas City oil spill: “While the past few days have been difficult on the region, it is safe to say that major progress is being made. Currently, the Houston Ship Channel has reopened for outbound ships from Houston and Galveston. There is also limited movement of inbound vessels. However, it has not been determined when the movement of deep draft vessels coming in from the Gulf of Mexico will resume. The Command Center has moved from Texas City to the Galveston Convention Center. The cleanup operation is continuing along the 15.5 miles of impacted shoreline, and Wildlife Response Services LLC is rapidly working to rescue any wildlife affected by the spill. My office and I continue to be in constant contact with the Command Center. I greatly appreciate and commend the tireless efforts of the various emergency management teams, agencies, Coast Guard, and countless volunteers who have helped clean up the shores and reopen the ship channel in an expedient fashion.” ### |
