Weber Encourages Students to Participate in Congressional Art Competition

This year marks the 31st annual Congressional Art Competition.  This nationwide competition encourages high school students from across America to showcase their artistic talents, which if chosen, will be displayed in the US Capitol for a year starting in June.

Since its creation over three decades ago, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the art competition. It is a great way for students from all congressional districts to have a chance at joining the ranks of other historical artists whose work graces our nation’s capital. Congressman Weber highly encourages his young constituents to get involved and participate.

Interested participants must submit their artwork to one of Congressman Weber’s district offices by Wednesday, April 23, 2014 by 5:00 pm. Students may only submit one original entry no larger than 28" x 28" x 4" inches, including the frame. Paintings, drawings, watercolors, pastels, collages, or prints may be submitted.

The winner, in addition to having their artwork displayed in the Capital, also will be provided with two roundtrip tickets to attend the ribbon cutting/opening ceremonies of the art exhibit in Washington, DC. There is also the opportunity of receiving a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design should they apply and be accepted for admission.

Congressman Weber, in an effort to recognize as many student artists as possible, will display the runner-ups in the district offices for a year as well.
