Big News: Protecting the Infrastructure That Powers America

This week, my Pipeline Cybersecurity Preparedness Act advanced out of the full House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously and is now eligible for consideration on the House floor.

I introduced this legislation alongside Representative Debbie Dingell of Michigan to strengthen cybersecurity coordination across the nation’s pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure. Here in Southeast Texas, we understand just how critical these systems are. The pipelines and LNG facilities along the Texas Gulf Coast help deliver the reliable supply of fuel and electricity that keeps our country running.

As the threat landscape evolves, cyberattacks on U.S. systems from adversarial nations and rogue actors continue to rise. That means we must strengthen coordination and information sharing across the energy sector so we are prepared to respond quickly if our infrastructure is ever targeted.

The Department of Energy (DOE) already serves as the federal government’s lead agency for the energy sector, working with infrastructure owners and operators, states, and other federal agencies. My bill strengthens that coordination and leverages DOE’s technical expertise to ensure we can secure our pipelines and LNG facilities and respond quickly to disruptions.

This legislation does not create a new regulatory program. It focuses on improving coordination so the right people are working together when it matters most.

Americans saw firsthand why this matters during the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack in 2021, when fuel shortages spread across the eastern seaboard and gas stations ran dry. It was a reminder that an attack on a pipeline in Texas can be felt by families at the gas pump all the way in Virginia.

In the wake of a cyberattack, we need a direct, cohesive, whole-of-government response to cut through the chaos and restore operations quickly. This legislation helps ensure America is ready.

President Trump launched Operation Epic Fury, taking decisive action against the Iranian regime that has spent decades threatening Americans, our allies, and the free world.

For years, Iran’s leaders have openly called America the “Great Satan” while funding terrorism and spreading violence across the Middle East. When a regime repeatedly tells the world it wants to kill Americans, we should take them at their word.

I want to thank President Trump and our great American troops for carrying out this mission. The greatest fighting force on the face of the Earth proved once again that it is strong, disciplined, and always ready.

But as we continue this fight, we must also remember the brave Americans who have already paid the ultimate price. At least six U.S. service members were killed during retaliatory Iranian strikes, including Capt. Cody A. Khork, Sgt. 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens, Sgt. 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, and Sgt. Declan J. Coady.

These heroes stood on the front lines defending our nation and protecting freedom around the world. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and our prayers remain with their families and fellow servicemembers.

My prayers are also with the Iranian people. An Iran built by its own people would be a force for peace and prosperity in the region. History teaches us that when people demand sovereignty and the free world stands with them, the world changes. That moment may very well be before us.

Team Weber made the rounds across TX-14 this week!

The team led another discussion on the Pelican Island Bridge, and Congressman Weber left encouraged by the strong engagement from local partners after the first roundtable. The conversation helped move things forward as stakeholders continue working through the scope and direction of the project, and we look forward to keeping that momentum going as the next roundtable comes together.

Team Weber also stopped by the Orange County Mayor’s Breakfast, where local elected officials and community leaders gather each month to talk about what’s happening across the region and how we can keep our communities moving forward.

At the State of Highway 99 Luncheon, representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation shared updates on the Grand Parkway project, including improvements planned through Alvin and surrounding communities.

The team was also honored to attend a Texas General Land Office Disaster Home Reconstruction key handoff, celebrating a homeowner receiving a rebuilt home following Hurricane Beryl!
