I was honored to host White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought and Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Adam Telle for a roundtable discussion with local stakeholders focused on the critical projects shaping the future of Texas' 14th Congressional District.
When it comes to the federal government, there are few officials more influential than the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). As the agency responsible for prioritizing federal spending, overseeing the budget and the implementing of the President's agenda across the entire executive branch, OMB plays a major role in determining how taxpayer dollars are spent and which national priorities receive attention. Director Vought is one of the key architects behind President Trump's effort to rein in Washington spending and make government work more efficiently for the American people.
We were also joined by Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Adam Telle, who oversees the Army Corps of Engineers' Civil Works Program. That portfolio includes many of the water infrastructure, navigation, flood protection, and coastal resiliency projects that are essential to communities along the Texas Gulf Coast. They oversee the maintenance of our ports and waterways to advance major storm protection initiatives. The decisions made by the Civil Works office have a direct impact on our region's economy, safety, and long-term growth.
During our discussion, local stakeholders and elected officials had the opportunity to speak directly with both Trump Administration officials about the projects that matter most to Southeast Texas and the challenges and opportunities ahead so Texas' 14th District can continue to play a vital role in our nation's success.
Big things are happening on the Texas Gulf Coast. The rest of the country is taking notice, and we're just getting started.
Stay tuned!

On Monday, history was made right here on the Texas Gulf Coast in Texas' 14th District.
Davie Defense and Gulf Copper officially broke ground on a historic $1 billion (with a B!) shipyard modernization project that will restore America's maritime dominance and usher in a new era of shipbuilding along the Gulf Coast. This monumental investment in Galveston and Port Arthur is expected to create more than 2,400 jobs right here at home and support roughly 7,000 jobs across the Lone Star State through suppliers, contractors, and related industries. This project will create opportunities for hardworking Texans like YOU!
Folks, this is about bolstering America's national security, rebuilding our industrial base, and making sure the United States remains the greatest nation on Earth. We have watched as Washington allowed our shipbuilding capacity to decline while foreign adversaries like Russia and China expanded their fleets and increased their influence around the globe. When America loses its ability to build, repair, and maintain ships, we lose a critical piece of our national defense necessary to remain dominant.
I have been proud to support this effort from its earliest stages, working hand in hand with Davie Defense, local leaders, and stakeholders to help move this vision from concept to reality. That commitment continued last year when I proudly voted YES for the One Big Beautiful Bill, which included a $25 billion investment to strengthen the United States Coast Guard and help ensure projects like this have the resources needed to succeed.
These modernized shipyards will serve as the base to build a new generation of Arctic Security Cutters and Coast Guard icebreakers, allowing America to protect its interests in the Arctic region. As global competition grows and new shipping routes emerge, the United States must have the capability to operate wherever security and American interests are at stake. The current plans call for multiple Arctic Security Cutters to be built through this program, with Texas leading in delivering these critical assets to the United States Coast Guard.
The Texas Gulf Coast has always powered America. From the energy like liquified natural gas (LNG) that fuels our economy to the ports that drive international commerce, our region is central to American prosperity. Now, we're adding another chapter by rebuilding America's maritime strength. Hear me when I say, the days of outsourcing American capability and surrendering our competitive edge are over.
Texas' 14th District is proving once again that when America needs a patriot to answer the call, the Gulf Coast will answer. I am proud to stand alongside the workers, businesses, and communities making this happen. And I look forward to returning when the first Arctic Security Cutter rolls out of these shipyards and into service for our great United States Coast Guard!

One of God’s greatest gifts is the three beautiful children I have been able to be a father to. Even better was the responsibility I had for them to make sure they were safe and protected from anything that could harm them. In today's world though, it is becoming increasingly difficult to thwart every threat because of the grey area in digital space where predators lie in wait. Recently, Texas secured a victory for families in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals which allowed the Texas law that requires age verification and parental approval to download apps to move forward. This measure allows parents to know what their children are accessing online and what type of content is entering their homes.
The internet and cell phones serve as a wonderful yet dangerous tool. It can expose children to things like harmful content and dangerous influences. Big Tech should not have the final say on children's online safety; it’s the parents.
Our children are too important to leave vulnerable, which is why we must empower parents to have control of their families, one device at a time.

This week, I questioned witnesses during a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee hearing examining the growing impact of California's emissions regulations on interstate commerce, transportation, and American industry. What happens in California does not stay in California. Because of special authority granted decades ago under the Clean Air Act, California has been allowed to impose regulations that increasingly influence manufacturing and transportation decisions across the entire country.
That should concern every American, but especially those of us on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Texas' 14th District is home to seven ports, critical waterways, world-class refineries, manufacturers, and energy producers. The ships entering our ports, the trucks moving products down I-10, and the equipment supporting our energy industry all depend on a transportation network that is efficient, reliable, and affordable. During the hearing, witnesses testified that California's regulations are forcing shipping companies, manufacturers, and transportation providers to spend millions of dollars complying with requirements that often provide little benefit while driving up costs. Those costs do not simply disappear. They work their way through the supply chain and ultimately land on the shoulders of American families and businesses.
The Gulf Coast helps keep America running. We should not allow unelected regulators in Sacramento to dictate policies that impact our ports, our industries, and our economy. Congress must continue working toward commonsense solutions that protect both our environment and the businesses that keep our nation moving.

It’s warm and sunny in Texas’ 14th District as we head into summer, but it is not the lazy dog days for Team Weber! In Orange, Texas, Team Weber started off the weekend at an event highlighting small businesses from around the area. The Lamar State College Port Arthur's Annual Small Business Symposium Luncheon & Small Business Awards banquet featured awards and the Ignite the Vision Finalist Pitch Competition.
Team Weber was also down in Brazoria County at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn Vendor Workshop, giving small businesses in the area a chance to learn how to do business with Port Freeport!
We wrapped up the week in Beaumont, celebrating the grand reopening of The Arc of Beaumont. Their mission of advocating for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is making a real difference in the lives of countless families throughout our region, and we congratulate them on this exciting new chapter.
The Texas Gulf Coast continues to grow, expand, and lead the way. Our small businesses and local organizations are the backbone of our community, and I am proud to stand beside them.
