As negotiations continue among Democrats, it is important to step back and take a look at what’s actually happening. Democrats are in chaos, determined to tax-and-spend but unable to agree on which taxes and how much spending. The truth is, excessive spending its why our economy is in a complete free-fall.
Back in March, President Biden promised that if we spent $1.9 trillion on a far-left wish list, our economy would take off. Only, now we are worse off. The economy slowed to a 2% annualized growth rate. Prices are rising at the fastest pace in decades. We are experiencing unprecedented supply-chain issues, skyrocketing gas prices, higher taxes, and lower wages for hardworking Americans across the country.
The Democrats' “Build Back Broke” policies are crushing the American economy. Thanks to trillions of dollars in higher taxes, new big government spending, new devastating regulations, and weaker American leadership, it’s no surprise that Biden’s government is leaving Americans behind.

For too long, Federal Bureau of Prisons employees working in designated ‘Rest of U.S.’ jurisdictions located near metropolitan areas have been subjected to lower pay rates even though they have higher costs-of-living for working near major cities. As a member of the BOP Reform Caucus, I am committed to working toward solutions which will address problems that have plagued the BOP and our correctional officers. My bill, the "Pay Our Correctional Officers Fairly Act", address staffing and retention problems facing BOP facilities by allowing for competitive pay that considers factors such as cost-of-living, commute times, and the hard work and dedication of our correctional officers. I thank Reps. Clay Higgins, Rep. Brian Babin, Rick Crawford, Matt Cartwright, Don Bacon, Pete Stauber, Jeff Van Drew for joining me in taking a stand for our correctional officers who work to keep our communities safe. Read the full bill text, here.

Hidden within the Democrats spending package is an “IRS Surveillance” program that would grant the government access to spy on nearly every Americans’ bank accounts. Their bill wants to use $80 billion of taxpayer funds to hire 85,000 more bureaucrats, nearly doubling the size of the IRS, to go through individuals’ personal banking information.
President Biden, and his colleagues in Congress, must have realized how unpopular this policy was with the American people, so they decided to make some “changes.” They created the impression they were raising the threshold in transactions individuals would need to hit before triggering the IRS to spy on their personal banking accounts.
Here’s the thing: what Democrats actually did was just window dress the same bad policy with different language. When you break down the $10,000 reporting threshold, all it means is that if you on average spend about $200/week, or to break it down even further, $28/day, President Biden and Democrats think that they deserve to snoop into your checking account.
Let’s run the numbers to see what an American would need to spend on an average day to activate Democrats’ “IRS Surveillance Program":
Cup of coffee: $3 Commute: $7 Lunch: $8 Dinner: $12 TOTAL: $30
Purchasing everyday items, which doesn’t even include higher cost regular expenses like groceries, gas, utilities, and repairs, would reach the amount needed to allow the IRS to spy on middle class Americans, not just the “wealthy elite” like they claim.

Friends,
According to reports, the Biden Administration is considering a pay out of up to $1 billion to immigrant families that were separated at the U.S. Mexico border during the Trump administration, reportedly around $450,000 per person! To be clear, these are people who intentionally broke the law by entering the United States illegally.
Let’s put this in perspective, this payout is more compensation than the average payment to 9/11 victims, light years more than the stimulus payments Americans received during the pandemic, and more than 6x the average American household income.
This is a disgrace.
I am currently working to introduce legislation that would prohibit any taxpayer funds to be used to settle the lawsuits brought against the Department of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services that stem from illegal immigrants being separated at the border under Trump-era policies.
But, I want to hear from you!

Do you think the Biden Administration should consider giving $450,000 to illegal immigrants who were separated from their families at the border?

We're hosting a special passport day to help you and your family apply for your passport. If you are a first time applicant or need a renewal, we can help!
Saturday, October 30th from 10:00am - 2:00pm
Before you make any travel plans, please remember to check the expiration date! It is a little known fact that some countries won’t allow entry if the visitor’s passport expires in six months or less. This effectively means that your passport may expire months before you think it does. Please check your family’s passports and if any will expire in less than a year, begin the renewal process now.
The Department of State is experiencing delays in receiving passport applications due to unprecedented mail volume and other COVID-19 impacts on both the U.S. Postal Service and local passport processing centers.
You can now apply for routine service and expect to receive a passport in 10-12 weeks*. You also hav e the option of paying an additional $60 for expedited service to receive your passport in 4-6 weeks.
These processing times apply to applications submitted by mail and in-person at an acceptance facility in your community. Most acceptance facilities such as post offices, clerks of court, and libraries are open and accepting passport applications.
The Department of State encourages you to apply by mail when possible because it is a safe, contactless option for certain services.
If you plan to expedite your passport application due to upcoming travel plans, we recommend that you send your application using USPS' Priority Mail Express.
All of the passport agencies and centers are processing passport applications. Because of increases in COVID-19 cases and changing local health conditions, agencies and centers offer extremely limited in-person services.

2021 Congressional App Challenge
|
I am pleased to announce that my office is hosting a 2021 Congressional App Challenge.
The Congressional App Challenge is a competition aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. The House of Representatives knows how crucial these skills are and wants to encourage students to engage in these fields. By encouraging and recognizing our nation’s young programming talent, Congress hopes to shine a light on the growing importance of these skills.
This competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. We strongly encourage students of all skill levels to participate, enabling them to learn how to create their own apps. Students are encouraged to register online and submit their apps by November 1st. To learn more about the competition or to submit an app go to weber.house.gov.
