This Week's Poll Question

In the midst of 40-year-high inflation, President Biden has announced his decision to unilaterally “cancel” hundreds of billions of dollars in federal student loan debt, going as far as to “forgive” up to $10,000 for each borrower who earns $125,000 or less a year and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. According to an estimation by the Penn Wharton Budget Model, Biden’s student loan scheme could cost taxpayers between $300-$980 billion

Today, I joined 93 of my Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Speaker Pelosi calling her to hold President Joe Biden accountable for his illegal $300 billion Student Loan Giveaway. The legislative and executive branches each possess defined powers under the Constitution. No provisions of the Constitution nor any act of Congress, including the Higher Education Act, grants President Biden or the Secretary of Education the authority that they falsely claim to wield through this unilateral action. Speaker Pelosi even admitted this in July 2021.

Bottom line: Americans should not be forced to pay for others' educational decisions.

Around the District

This week, I have been traveling the district. It's important that I spend as much time at home in Texas hearing what the people of Texas-14 need!

I started the week with some of my Texas colleagues to meet with ERCOT Board members. We had a great discussion about the future of the energy grid in Texas to ensure reliability in all conditions.

The Coastal Texas project continues to be a priority for our district. I joined Senator Cruz in Galveston to tour the Galveston Ring Barrier Systems and received an informative briefing from the Gulf Coast Protection District and Army Corps of Engineers. We have been pushing for authorization for the project for years, which was included in this year's Water Resources Development Act. The next step will be to get the funding for the project through the appropriations process next year, for the fiscal year 2024. Coastal barrier protection is a matter of national security. The Texas Gulf Coast is home to millions of people, countless homes and jobs, and numerous refineries. Galveston is Houston's (and others) gateway to the Gulf. Anyone on the coast will be the first to say it's not a question of "IF" the next storm hits, but "WHEN." Our communities remain vulnerable.

I held a telephone town hall on Wednesday. I enjoyed answering questions for the great people of TX-14. Be on the lookout for future events as we fight for conservative values in Washington.

Thursday,  started the morning off touring Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (BASF) Corporation in Freeport. It was great to learn more about BASF's initiatives in sustainability, career opportunities, and workforce development. Then I spoke at the Angleton Chamber of Commerce about issues facing Americans and an update on the work I've been doing in Congress. Thank you to the chamber's dedication to enhancing local business, which helps bring the community together.

FBI Raid & Border Crisis

play button

Last week, I joined Newsmax to discuss the politically motivated raid by the FBI on President Trump's home and the ongoing invasion at our southern border.

Today, the FBI released a redacted affidavit. We wanted an affidavit that was as open and transparent as possible, and what we got was a joke. According to the government's own affidavit demanding authority to raid Trump's home, the unprecedented raid was necessary because a bureaucrat at the National Archives was mad that Trump had "newspapers, magazines, [and] printed news articles.

When the Republicans are in charge, we will conduct immediate oversight. This egregious double standard must be stopped & the swamp must be drained!
