The Fiscal Year 2027 Energy and Water Appropriations bill cleared another major hurdle this week after passing out of the full House Appropriations Committee. The legislation now heads to the U.S. House Floor and includes more than $120 MILLION for projects across Texas’ 14th Congressional District.

Included in the bill:

• $100 million for the Sabine-Neches Waterway construction project.
• $12.7 million for Galveston Harbor and Channel operations and maintenance.
• $9.2 million for the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study, locally known as the Ike Dike.

The Sabine-Neches Waterway helps move American energy to the world. The Galveston Harbor and Channel keeps one of the busiest entrance channels in the country operating safely and efficiently. The Coastal Texas Project is about protecting our communities and the valuable resources we house along the coastline.

Year after year, appropriations season is where priorities are tested, refined, and fought for. We stay engaged through every stage of the process, making sure Southeast Texas leads at the forefront of the conversation.

And folks, more and more people are paying attention to what is happening right here in our neighborhoods. Earlier this month, House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Chuck Fleischmann traveled to TX-14 to see firsthand the infrastructure and energy production that powers this nation. And just last week, Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright visited Golden Pass LNG in Sabine Pass as the facility continues ramping up operations after reaching first production earlier this year.

We still have much more work to do, but this is another major step forward for the Texas Gulf Coast as the bill now moves to the House Floor before heading to the Senate!

This week, a new investigation exposed Chinese birth tourism operations operating in the Houston area that reportedly helped facilitate more than 1,000 births for Chinese nationals seeking U.S. citizenship for their children.

According to reports, these operations allegedly coached individuals on how to obtain tourist visas and use America’s immigration system for the sole purpose of giving birth on U.S. soil. The story has reignited the national debate surrounding birthright citizenship and whether the 14th Amendment was ever intended to apply to individuals entering the country temporarily for that purpose.

Starting strong in Texas City, Team Weber was proud to help serve our veterans at the monthly Galveston County veteran food distribution. Team Weber also spent time in Port Arthur for the National Maritime Day Observance and Memorial honoring the brave sailors and Merchant Marines who help keep America moving and our Gulf Coast economy strong. While in Port Arthur, Team Weber attended the Chamber of Commerce and Department of Transportation Luncheon to hear important updates about the community, local infrastructure, and the needs of Southeast Texas.

Down in Brazoria County, Team Weber attended the Marketing Minds industry panel where business leaders and professionals shared valuable insight on the ever-changing marketing landscape and the importance of adapting to new ways of reaching and connecting with people.
