Cracking Down on Medicare and Medicaid Fraud This week, I joined the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations to examine fraud in Medicare and Medicaid. Across the country, bad actors are exploiting gaps in the system to siphon off billions of taxpayer dollars meant for patient care. These are coordinated operations designed to move money quickly, avoid detection, and take advantage of weak oversight. In Texas alone, we have seen just how serious this problem has become. In Houston, a scheme targeted Medicare Advantage plans by billing for braces and glucose monitors that patients never received, generating more than $400 million in claims in just a few months. In Austin, another operation submitted $134 million in fraudulent claims in just over a month, tied to a broader network responsible for more than $3.3 billion in false billing. And in North Texas, a coordinated takedown uncovered more than $210 million in fraud, including fake genetic testing and COVID testing claims using stolen patient information. These schemes are deliberate. They rely on stolen identities, false claims, kickbacks, and they leave taxpayers footing the bill. But the real cost is not just financial. Our seniors, among the most vulnerable, are often the ones who suffer when these programs are abused. Fraud can compromise their personal information, disrupt their care, and erode trust in programs they rely on every day. We must strengthen program integrity by improving coordination with states, using real-time data to identify suspicious activity sooner, and ensuring patients have clear, accessible ways to report fraud and protect themselves. Just as importantly, we must hold bad actors accountable and close the gaps they continue to open. Medicare and Medicaid are lifelines for millions of Americans. We owe it to them (and to the taxpayers who fund these programs) to ensure every dollar is protected and these programs operate with the accountability and integrity they were designed to uphold.

Cracking Down on Medicare and Medicaid Fraud

This week, I joined the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations to examine fraud in Medicare and Medicaid.

Don't Sharia Our Texas!

Sharia

The Sharia Free Caucus is growing, now 57 members strong in Congress, including 16 from the great state of Texas!

The mission of this caucus is to ensure that our nation’s laws remain rooted in the U.S. Constitution and are applied equally to every American.

This is not a new issue for me. During my time in the Texas State House, I introduced legislation to prohibit the use of foreign legal systems, including Sharia law, in Texas courts. I have long believed that our legal system must remain consistent, transparent, and grounded in the Constitution.

In recent years, we have seen examples that prompt important conversations about preserving that standard. In Irving, Texas, a neighborhood developed by Hamra Homes LLC includes street names such as Ali Akbar Court, Salma Jameel Court, and Hasina Drive, with a mosque located within the community. While communities across our country reflect a wide range of cultures and traditions, our legal system must always remain unified under one set of laws.

The Sharia Free Caucus, led by Rep. Keith Self (R-TX), is focused on upholding these principles by ensuring that foreign legal doctrines have no place in American courts and by reinforcing the constitutional framework that protects every citizen equally.

Our Constitution provides the foundation for freedom, fairness, and equal justice under the law. It is what unites us as a nation, and it must always remain the standard we uphold.

Keeping Russian Oil Out of Enemy Hands

Gas

I joined Rep. August Pfluger and several of my Texas colleagues in urging the Trump Administration to ensure that Russian energy assets, specifically those tied to Lukoil, are permanently kept out of Moscow’s control.

Lukoil alone accounts for roughly 2% of the world’s oil supply. As sanctions force the company to sell off major international assets, the United States has a responsibility  to make sure those assets do not fall back into Russian hands through loopholes or backroom deals.

Russia has long used its energy sector to fund its war machine and exert influence over global markets. At the same time, continued tensions with Iran, one of Russia’s closest allies, are already driving instability and pushing gas prices higher here at home

We made it clear to the Treasury Department that any sale of these assets must fully sever ties with Russia and prevent adversarial control from creeping back in once sanctions ease. At the same time, this presents a major opportunity for American energy producers, including companies based right in Texas, to step in, strengthen global supply, and reinforce U.S. energy leadership.

Time and again, American energy dominance has proven to be critical to our national security.

When America leads, we stabilize markets, support our allies, and deny hostile regimes the resources they use to threaten peace around the world.

This is a moment we cannot afford to get wrong.

Survey Question of the Week

Airport

Travelers across Southeast Texas are feeling the impact of the ongoing partial DHS shutdown, which I have voted multiple times to end.

Just today at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport, TSA wait times have stretched up to 150 minutes, with lines spilling through terminals, down escalators, and even into baggage claim. Hobby Airport has also been impacted in recent days. These delays are being driven by severe staffing shortages, as TSA agents continue reporting to work without pay while also facing increased callouts and reduced checkpoint capacity.

With conditions changing quickly, travelers should check live TSA wait times and plan accordingly. View wait time updates here.

Around the District

Around the District

Three months into 2026, and there is no slowing down here in Texas’ 14th Congressional District!

This week, Team Weber was proud to meet with the Alzheimer’s Association to discuss the impact this disease is having on Texas families and the importance of continued awareness and support.

We also joined the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated and rebranded Lofts by Tremont, a great example of investment and revitalization right here in our district.

In Brazoria County, we connected with local leaders and small businesses at the Brazoria Chamber of Commerce breakfast, hosted by Dixon Funeral Home, and attended an Area Agency on Aging event with the Brazoria Hispanic Chamber of Commerce focused on supporting our seniors.

Back in Galveston County, Team Weber helped support a monthly food distribution for local veterans and their families. We also participated in the March 2026 Transportation Committee Meeting, where leaders from the Texas Water Development Board discussed Proposition 4 and the critical connection between water infrastructure and long-term mobility planning.

From supporting our seniors and veterans to strengthening infrastructure and local business, it was another strong week across TX-14.
