119th Congress

119th Congress

It is impossible to reflect upon the past year – and the end of the 118th Congress – without first speaking of what a tremendous honor it is to serve the Fourteenth Congressional District of Texas. It is an honor that cannot be taken lightly or for granted.

Today, we officially started the 119th Congress, and I was proud to cast my vote for Speaker Johnson. He’s a friend, a fighter, and a man of deep integrity who is ready to lead with bold, conservative principles. As Republicans, we are united and committed to delivering on President Trump’s America First agenda, putting the American people first in everything we do.

We must work with the Senate and the President to restore a thriving economy, secure our borders, and reclaim American energy dominance—priorities critical to delivering the accountable, effective government that hard-working Americans expect and deserve.

Across the nation, many families feel the strain of rising costs, struggling to afford groceries, pay medical bills, or keep their homes heated—issues no family should face. For too long, Texans and Americans alike have borne the burden of record inflation driven by reckless government spending. House Republicans will prioritize reining in this wasteful spending to ease that pressure. The current economic policies have failed the American people, and it’s time to pass common-sense legislation that lowers costs, addresses inflation, and reignites our economy.

We also face a national security crisis at our southern border. The failure to enforce border laws has created a humanitarian disaster that affects not just border states like Texas but the entire nation. The surge in drug and human-trafficking has gone on long enough. In the 118th Congress, we passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, designed to empower our border agents, reduce illegal immigration, and strengthen national security. In the 119th Congress, we will immediately prioritize policies to continue the border wall construction, enhanced border security technology, and other measures to keep Americans safe.

Energy security is national security. American energy is the cleanest, safest, and most ethically produced in the world. When we produce energy at home, we strengthen our economy and protect our environment, instead of empowering our adversaries. The 119th Congress must focus on restoring American energy independence by reducing regulatory burdens and unleashing the full potential of American energy production. As the newly appointed Vice Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee on the Energy and Commerce Committee, I am proud to have a leadership role in this fight.

It’s time to bring reason and responsibility back to Washington. This Congress, putting Americans first will remain our top priority, and I am honored to serve the people of Texas’ 14th District in this critical mission.

Survey Question of the Week

This week, our nation was rocked by a terrorist attack in New Orleans, a tragedy that has deeply impacted all of us. As President Trump aptly said, this was an act of pure evil. Innocent Americans celebrating New Year's were viciously attacked. Brenda Gail and I are praying for all those affected, especially the lives lost and those still fighting for their lives. It is heart-wrenching to see this kind of violence so close to home.

What is even more disturbing is that the attacker was an American citizen. This only deepens my concern for the safety of our communities. What we need now are candid answers. There's no need to sugarcoat what’s happening. If there are uncomfortable truths to be uncovered, then let's be transparent and share that information with the public.

It is now more important than ever to get President Trump’s cabinet in place. We need Kristi Noem at DHS, Kash Patel at FBI, Pete Hegseth at DOD, Marco Rubio at State, John Ratcliffe at CIA, and of course Tulsi Gabbard at DNI. That has to be in place DAY ONE. It’s time to protect our country, and keep Americans safe from the growing threats around us. We will continue fighting for answers from the New Orleans Terror attack.
