TikTok Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit sided with H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which I championed and fought for until it was signed into law. The court ruled that the U.S. government has the authority to ban TikTok, citing the national security risk posed by the platform. The court recognized that TikTok could be pressured by the Chinese government to expose Americans' data or influence what they see on the app. TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is based in China. TikTok has become a tool for the Chinese Communist Party to collect data and spy on millions of Americans. China is not our friend and does not have the interests of any American at heart. While this decision doesn’t immediately shut down TikTok, it does force ByteDance to divest from the platform—effectively cutting off the flow of data between Americans’ phones and Beijing. Most Americans have no idea how much personal information China collects about them—bank accounts, tax forms, social security numbers, travel details, and more. This surveillance allows China to monitor and manipulate American lives. It is imperative that we stop this pathway of access into American homes and lives. This decision ensures TikTok can operate without Chinese influence, protecting Americans’ privacy and national security. The United States will always stand up for our values and our freedom. That’s why the days of TikTok targeting, surveilling, and manipulating Americans are numbered.

Trump Tax Cuts

Tax Cuts

After President Trump signed the 2017 tax relief into law (the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act), American workers and families paid less in taxes and had more money in their pocket. At the end of next year a lot of the tax cuts will expire.

Congress will be tasked to work with President Trump to extend the tax cuts.

The 2017 Trump tax cuts weren’t just a policy win—they were a game changer. They created 5 million new jobs, brought unemployment to its lowest point in 50 years, and put more money back into the pockets of hardworking Americans. Simply put, they worked.

But after four years of disastrous policies under Biden and Harris, families in Southeast Texas and across the nation are struggling. Inflation has driven up costs by over 20%, mortgage rates have skyrocketed, and real wages have dropped. Folks are doing everything they can just to keep the lights on and food on the table.

Now, there’s hope. With President Trump back in the White House, we have a clear mandate to restore economic sanity and fight for families. Small business confidence is climbing, workers are optimistic, and the American people are ready for policies that empower them—not crush them under the weight of Washington’s failed ideas.

Extending the Trump tax cuts is more than a priority—it’s a necessity. These policies gave our country the kind of economic freedom that fosters innovation, creates jobs, and lifts up every community. We’ve seen it work before, and we’ll see it work again.

As your representative, I’m fighting tooth and nail to ensure we prevent the $7 trillion tax hike looming over this nation. Southeast Texas families deserve better. You deserve a Congress that works for you, not against you. Together, we’ll bring back the prosperity we know is possible—and keep America thriving for generations to come.

Internships

Interns

I want to give a big THANK you to our fall interns in Washington. We are always lucky to have interns in each of our offices that assist with daily activities, conduct research, assist constituent inquiries, and much more. They play an indispensable role in serving the constituents of TX-14. They have truly outdone themselves, and we can't wait to see what they conquer next!

About the internship program: Congressional interns lead Capitol tours, answer phones, research legislation, and attend briefings. Students have the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience and an understanding of the inner-workings of Congress. If interested, please fill out the internship application found on my website here: www.weber.house.gov/forms/internships/

If you know any college students interested in a Spring 2025 internship at our League City office, we’re still accepting applications!

This week, Team Weber had the honor of attending a ceremony to pay tribute to an extraordinary leader and advocate, Marie Flickinger. For nearly 30 years, Marie served San Jacinto College and its students with unmatched heart and compassion. A fierce champion for student success, Marie dedicated herself to breaking down barriers so students could achieve their higher education goals. Her passion for the mission of San Jacinto College was evident in every effort she made, working tirelessly alongside her fellow Board members to create opportunities and change lives. Her unwavering dedication will forever leave a legacy at San Jacinto College, inspiring future generations. Marie Flickinger's contributions will not be forgotten, and her impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

Team Weber also celebrated the grand opening of Texla Equipment in Beaumont, a premier forklift company proudly serving Southeast Texas. They attended the Friendswood Chamber's Monthly Lunch for some Christmas fun.
