The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability held a hearing this week with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to answer questions on the egregious security lapses that led to the attempted assassination of President Trump, the murder of an innocent victim, and harm to others in the crowd at the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. 

Director Cheatle could not or refused to answer basic questions from Committee members, leading Republican and Democrat members to call for Director Cheatle’s immediate resignation.

U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle repeatedly failed to answer basic questions from Republicans and Democrats related to stunning operational failures that led to the attempted assassination of President Trump.

Key Questions Director Cheatle failed to answer:

• Did the Secret Service deny President Trump’s campaign additional security? If so, when and how many times?

  
  

• Why did Secret Service fail to secure a rooftop in proximity to the rally site and with a clear view of President Trump’s podium?

  
  

• Were agents positioned at the rally site affiliated with Secret Service or another Department?

  
  

• Was there any intelligence gathered by Secret Service on the gunman?

  
  

• How were Secret Service resources deployed at the rally site?

  
  

• Was their advanced planning by Secret Service leading up to the campaign rally?  

The next day, Cheatle resigned. I'm glad she did the right thing.

This week, Congress passed a bill to establish the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, which gives the task force investigative authority, including subpoena authority, to thoroughly analyze the circumstances surrounding the assassination attempt and ensure the failures that occurred never happen again.

The goal of the Task Force will be threefold: 

• To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination
• To ensure accountability
• To prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again

The Task Force will make recommendations for reform to the relevant government agencies and recommend any necessary legislation to implement the reforms.

The Task Force will be comprised of seven Republicans and six Democrats.

Now more than ever, it's vital to show the world that America stands unequivocally with our most cherished ally, Israel.

I was proud to attend. It was a powerful speech, and we will continue to stand with our greatest ally. We will work to eradicate Hamas off the face of the earth, bring every single hostage home, and restore peace in the Middle East.

They call Israel a colonialist state. Don’t they know that the Land of Israel is where Abraham, Isaac and Jacob prayed, where Isaiah and Jeremiah preached and where David and Solomon ruled?...

"The war in Gaza could end tomorrow if Hamas surrenders, disarms and returns all the hostages. That’s what total victory means, and we will settle for nothing less.”

Under President Biden and Border Czar Vice President Kamala Harris, more than 7.9 million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to enter the U.S., including 372 people on the terrorist watchlist – that we know of. And these migrants aren’t just coming from South America: individuals from over 160 countries, including countries on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, have been apprehended crossing our border illegally. Additionally, these disastrous policies have enabled drug traffickers to flood our streets with fentanyl. In 2023, the DEA seized over 386 million deadly doses of fentanyl – the most fentanyl seized by DEA in a single year and enough to kill every American. 

Since President Biden appointed Vice President Harris in charge of the border crisis in March of 2021, she has visited the border only one time and failed to take any action to address the massive influx of migrants or its devastating consequences on hardworking Americans. She even proclaimed that the border was secure, when every American knew it wasn’t. 

Vice President Harris owns this Administration’s disastrous record, especially the crisis at our border which was her main responsibility as vice president. This Administration must be held accountable for their egregious disregard of and efforts to subvert our border laws, and for the consequences their actions have had on American families.

Yesterday, 219 Members of Congress (6 Democrats) voted to condemn the Biden Administration and Border Czar Kamala Harris for their failure to secure the U.S. southern border, resulting in the worst border crisis in American history.

On no fewer than 15 occasions, Harris has defended illegal alien lawbreakers — a sentiment at odds with her role as "Border Czar" in the Harris-Biden administration:

• "It is wrong to somehow suggest that an undocumented immigrant is a criminal." (2017 press conference)

As "Border Czar," Harris opened the door for millions of unvetted illegal aliens — including violent criminals and terrorists — to flood our country and resettle in our communities. Her negligence has led to U.S. citizens being brutally murdered and assaulted by individuals with no legal right to be in the country in the first place.
