Dear Friend,

October is a busy month for all of us. Friday Night Lights are back; the weather can’t decide what to do; and classes are in full gear. For me, this month is filled with events and road trips across our GREAT district.

Earlier this month, I spoke at the AIPAC Southwest Region Veterans Dinner. The brave men and women we honored sacrificed much for our country. My deepest thanks to them for their service.

Without a doubt, Israel is our closest ally in the Middle East. Two of her greatest strengths are that she stands up for herself and she stands up for her friends. Israel’s strength proves that all 8,019 square miles of her is mighty.

Our two nations work closely together to keep each other safe and secure. Our scientists and our military value the input of each other. Together, we’ve achieved many great things. I look forward to our continued alliance.

"T-Bone by Brooke Langston is on display in the Capitol.

Each year, our office hosts the Congressional Art Competition. I had the pleasure of speaking to the audience at the Brazoria County Fair, and my…I must tell you, we have some talented young artists in our district. Congrats to Chisom Akunne for taking home the top prize at the fair. Her piece, “The Sheriff,” is remarkable! To all our young artists out there: Looking forward to seeing y’all participate in next year’s art competition! Contact Janet Brown in our Beaumont Office (409-835-0108) for more details. I’ll be sure to post details on my Facebook in the spring, too!

Lecturing students and taking questions at LIT.

I also visited the Lamar Institute of Technology. They graciously invited me to teach a class. For about 50 minutes, the students and I talked trade, reducing regulations on business and industry, Harvey recovery, and the day-to-day life of a Congressman. Let me tell you, there are some bright, young minds at LIT. Many thanks to Dr. Lonnie L. Howard, LIT, and the students!

At the Beaumont Rotary Club.

Right after class, I met with the Beaumont Rotary Club. Southeast Texas is rich with energy, trade, and ports. We will not soon forget that, and we are doing everything possible to continue advancing the gains these industries bring to families, the community, and our economy.

At the end of the day, all we can do is work hard and do our best to help others. “Service Above Self” isn’t simply a motto for Rotary Club, it’s a way of life. Southeast Texas leads by example, and the example you set is a gift to our community, our state, and our nation.

A great morning with Olin employees.

Across our great district, we are concerned with safety – the safety of our families, neighbors, coworkers, and community. Olin recently received the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Star Site award. This distinct award is given to the few who shine in their prevention and control of occupation health and safety hazards. The care employees put into making sure their workplace is a safe environment is outstanding. Olin is no exception. It was a pleasure to stop by, say hello, and walk through their gallery showcasing products and projects that will lead Olin into the future. Chemical manufacturing is an important industry that plays a role in our daily lives.

Touring our ports by sea...

Our Coast Guard works around the clock to protect our nation and be prepared for whatever may come our way. We will never forget the Coast Guard's heroism and lifesaving rescue missions during Hurricane Harvey. My deepest thanks and gratitude to them.

One of my priorities in Congress is reauthorizing Coast Guard programs. Our Coast Guard is tasked with search and rescue missions, illegal drug and migrant interdiction, oil spill prevention and response, and more. While visiting with Rear Admiral Thomas, we discussed these missions, the state of equipment, and Harvey, while touring the facility and port.

and by air!

We need people who understand liberty and freedom, our Declaration of Independence and Constitution are clear on these matters. We need people – no, make that Patriots – who understand freedom is not for sale and should never be taken for granted. Texas 14 , y'all get it. I am BLESSED to represent you.

Sincerely,

Randy K. Weber
