Iran Deal

Biden’s new Iran deal is a more dangerous version of the fatally flawed 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which China and Russia are using to strengthen their nuclear and military trade ties with Iran.

The Biden Administration is reportedly weighing removing the designation of Foreign Terror Organization from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a condition of the new deal.  This report comes as the IRGC has continually supported and funded terrorist groups throughout the Middle East and other parts of the world that endanger American troops and our allies.

The IRGC fired dozens of missiles near the U.S. consulate in Iraq last weekend, Iranian government officials have repeatedly chanted “Death to America,” and the IRGC has vowed to wipe Israel off the “global political map.”

There are indications that Biden’s new Iran deal will prevent the United States from reimposing sanctions on Iranian financial institutions, making Iran ripe for Russia to use as a workaround as it seeks to evade penalties on its economy.  In the short term, this deal will leave Iran with the ability to “break out” – produce fissile material for a nuclear bomb – within a few months.

Under Biden’s new Iran deal, Iran will get more nuclear and even non-nuclear sanctions lifted – and with it, a windfall of billions of dollars to better arm itself, in exchange for fewer and shorter-lived nuclear restrictions.

Biden's failed leadership and weakness on the world stage has emboldened our adversaries. Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and radical Islamic terrorists are all stronger today because of Biden's actions.

American Energy Dependence

Rather than unleash American energy and end his anti-energy policies, Biden said he “can't do much right now” about skyrocketing prices. He is, however, choosing to release even more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).  This move follows an SPR release of 50 million barrels of oil in November of 2021, which did nothing to prevent a spike in energy prices. The SPR is supposed to be used for national security emergencies and major weather events, not for Biden to use as a political Hail Mary when his policies fail.

Biden is also reportedly asking Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and even Iran to replace Russian oil.  He began fulfilling his anti-energy promise on his first day in office, when he launched his war on American energy when he killed the Keystone XL pipeline, which could be supplying 830,000 thousand barrels of oil from Canada to U.S. refineries. In his first week in office, President Biden issued an executive order suspending all oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters. While a federal judge ruled the leasing bans to be illegal, Biden’s administration has issued ZERO new leases on federal lands.

In May 2021, President Biden removed sanctions against Nord Stream 2, which were previously put in place by former President Trump. In February 2022, President Biden reversed course and reimposed the Trump sanctions, noting the “overwhelming incentive to move away from Russian gas...”

President Biden’s FY22 Budget request explicitly opposed funding the construction or maintenance of projects that would lower the cost of gas, diesel, or energy derived from fossil fuels. Biden's Department of Energy has slow-walked liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports that could reduce Europe’s dependence on Russia.

President Biden imported an average of 198,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Russia in 2021 - a 160% increase from the previous year. After banning Russian energy imports, Biden wants us to believe that begging other dictators is better than American energy – even though the U.S. has 38 billion barrels of proven oil reserves.

Europe currently gets 41% of its natural gas from Russia. The Biden administration should immediately approve the six pending liquified natural gas (LNG) export applications - in addition to unleashing more of our proven reserves of natural gas (473.3 trillion cubic feet) - to help our allies.

Banning U.S. imports of Russian energy isn’t enough. America must increase energy production and exports to displace Russian energy in the market and provide our allies with affordable, reliable, and secure energy.

To end Russian energy leverage we need to:

  1. End Biden’s federal freeze on all new oil and gas projects
  2. Fast-track pending LNG export permits
  3. Expedite approval of all pipeline and energy development
  4. Stop the regulatory assault on U.S. energy development and financing

Biden first blamed Russia’s invasion for prices. Now, the administration is falsely blaming the oil and gas industry for the consequences of their own failed agenda. Biden’s Far-Left, anti-American energy policies drove up prices for Americans and destroyed American energy dominance. This is Biden’s price hike - no one else’s.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

I joined my colleagues in a letter to Chairman Durbin and Ranking Member Grassley expressing concern regarding potential issues with the judicial temperament of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, specifically her record on sentencing for certain sex offenses.

Dating back more than a decade, to her time as Vice-Chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, it appears she has exhibited a profoundly troubling pattern of leniency towards some of the most disturbing crimes in our society. Incredibly, for every child pornography case in which Judge Jackson has ruled and for which records are available, she deviated from federal sentencing guidelines in favor of the offenders.

Accordingly, we urged the Committee to undertake a full review and investigation of all documents and decisions in this area, including those from the nominee’s work at the U.S. Sentencing Commission.

Sen Cruz Grills Judge Jackson On Critical Race Theory During Confirmation Hearing

Friends,

This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a three-day hearing on the appointment of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court

  • Sen. Ted Cruz questioned Jackson on her about her view regarding Critical Race Theory.  (video above)
  • Sen. Marsha Blackburn asked Jackson to define the word "woman," which Jackson said she couldn't because "I’m not a biologist."  (video above)
  • Sen Josh Hawley questioned the nominee about her judicial sentencing philosophy regarding crime and removing mandatory minimum sentences for child pornography. (video above)

As you know I have expressed concern regarding potential issues with the judicial record of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, specifically her history on sentencing for certain sex offenses.

A Pew Research survey, taken prior to this week's hearing, reported 44% of the public says the Senate should definitely (24%) or probably (20%) confirm Jackson, while just 18% say she should not be confirmed. Nearly four-in-ten (38%) say they are unsure.

But I want to hear from you!

Given Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's testimony during this week's Senate Hearing on her confirmation, do you believe she should replace Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Court?
