Committees are moving fast and furious here in DC, and we are right there in the middle of it! This week, energy dominance was front and center in both the House Science, Space, and Technology Energy Subcommittee and the House Energy and Commerce Energy Subcommittee.
|
HOUSE SCIENCE, SPACE, AND TECHNOLOGY ENERGY SUBCOMMITTEE
I chaired a hearing on subsurface science and technology, where we focused on how critical minerals and advanced drilling are driving American energy dominance. The United States has always been rich in natural resources, but what is changing is how we access them. Thanks to innovation in oil and gas, technologies like advanced drilling and hydraulic fracturing are unlocking resources that were once out of reach.
Geothermal energy is a great example. What used to be limited to a few regions can now be expanded nationwide using next-generation techniques. That means more reliable baseload power at a time when energy demand is skyrocketing.
As the author of the Next Generation Pipeline Research and Development Act, I am focused on making sure we have the infrastructure and technology to meet that demand. If we want to lead in artificial intelligence and outpace our adversaries, it starts with having the power to back it up.

HOUSE ENERGY AND COMMERCE ENERGY SUBCOMMITTEE
Over in Energy and Commerce, I talked to Department of Energy Secretary Wright and highlighted the critical role Texas’ 14th plays in America’s energy security.
Our district is home to about 60 percent of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), making Southeast Texas central to how we respond to energy needs here at home and abroad. We discussed recent SPR actions and the importance of managing those resources responsibly.
And right here in our district, we are seeing that strength firsthand. Golden Pass LNG recently reached its first production milestone, bringing jobs, investment, and unleash American energy dominance.
Now, I know folks are still feeling the pressure of higher prices. That is exactly why I am working alongside my colleagues to move as fast as we can to bring costs down for the long run with real solutions that increase supply, strengthen our infrastructure, and Unleash American Energy Dominance.
The American people should not have to worry about the price at the pump or choose between putting food on the table and getting to work. When we get energy policy right, families feel it. And when America leads in energy, everybody wins.

Appropriations season is in full swing! As deadlines approach and hearings begin, this marks the very beginning of a long process.
This year, for example, the President’s FY2027 budget proposal included several projects for Texas’ 14th Congressional District. Just to name a few, it provides funding for the Sabine–Neches Waterway Channel Improvement Project, the Galveston Harbor & Channel, and the Coastal Texas Protection & Restoration Study! That is a strong signal that Southeast Texas is being heard and that the work we have been putting in is making a difference.
But let me be clear, that is just the starting point.
From here on out, every dollar is reviewed, negotiated, and fought for. Nothing is guaranteed, and nothing moves forward without continued effort. That is why my staff and I stay fully engaged every step of the way, making sure Texas’ 14th Congressional District is at the forefront of every single conversation.
Here is how the process unfolds:
|
- Begins with the President’s Budget Request
- Submitted by the Office of Management and Budget, this proposal lays out the Administration’s priorities and is typically delivered to Congress in early February.
- Members submit district funding requests
- Each office submits requests for projects and programs, all of which must meet strict eligibility and transparency requirements.
- Congress gets to work reviewing and holding hearings
- The House Appropriations Committee holds Budget and Oversight Hearings where agency leaders defend their funding requests. Members of Congress can also testify to advocate for their priorities, which is what I did in early April. (Watch here)
- Congress sets overall spending levels
- Through the budget resolution, the Budget Committee establishes the topline funding level.
- Funding is divided across subcommittees
- The Appropriations Committee then breaks that total into 12 subcommittee allocations, each responsible for a different area of government.
- Bills are written within those limits
- Subcommittees draft funding bills that allocate resources across agencies and programs under their jurisdiction.
- Markups begin
- Each bill is debated, amended, and refined in both the subcommittee and full committee. This is where the details get hammered out.
- Bills move to the House and Senate floors
- Lawmakers debate, amend, and vote on each appropriations bill.
- Differences are resolved
- The House and Senate work through any differences, formally or informally, to produce a final version.
- Final passage and signature
- The final bill is passed by both chambers and sent to the President to be signed into law.
It is a long road, but it is one worth traveling because this is how YOUR Congressional office delivers for you.
Let’s take a look back at Fiscal Year 2026. That work resulted in nearly $40 million for Texas’ 14th, including:
- Nearly $18 million for dredging the Galveston Ship Channel, keeping one of the most vital energy corridors in the country moving.
- Over $9 million to advance the Sabine–Neches Waterway Project.
- $2 million for Lamar State College Port Arthur to strengthen workforce training.
- $1 million for West Columbia to improve local infrastructure.
- $730,000 for Angleton to upgrade community facilities
Appropriations is where priorities become dollars, and dollars become results.
Throughout this season, I am proud to be working for YOU and your families. Being able to deliver for our communities and invest back into the district we call home is one of the greatest honors of my life. I will continue showing up every day to make sure Texas’ 14th continues to lead and that YOUR voice is heard in every room.

Tax Season may be behind us, but the Working Families Tax Cuts are here to stay.
After years of “Bidenomics” putting pressure on hardworking Americans at the gas pump, the grocery store, and everywhere in between, it was time for a change. That changed when President Trump, with the help of Congress, got back to work and put everyday Americans first.
The Working Families Tax Cuts Act did not just promise relief, it delivered it. We are seeing it in paychecks and around kitchen tables across the country. In just over a year, the results are real and they are making a difference.
Here is what that looks like:
- 7.2+ million jobs created and protected;
- Families of four earning up to $73,000 paying $0 in federal income taxes;
- Child Tax Credit increased to $2,200 per child;
- $205 billion in total relief for 90% of standard deduction taxpayers;
- No Tax on Tips with up to a $25,000 deduction;
- No Tax on Overtime with a $12,500 deduction benefiting 80 million workers;
- And No Tax on Social Security, delivering a $6,000 bonus for seniors.
The American Dream is being revived day by day.
As a husband, a father, and a former small business owner, I have lived that dream. I know what is possible when the government gets out of the way and lets people succeed.
I am focused on putting more money back in your pocket and more opportunity in front of your family.
This is about You. Your family. Your future.

After Tax Day, accountants may finally get a breather, but here in Texas’ 14th District, Team Weber is not slowing down one bit! In Texas City, we were honored to join the College of the Mainland for the grand opening of their new $14.4 million Corporate Training Center. This investment in the future of our workforce has industry-driven training labs, expert instruction, and opportunities for certifications and professional development, equipping the next generation of skilled Texans.
Over in Galveston, our team had the privilege of taking part in the very first Fleet Week ever hosted in the Lone Star State. The Sunrise Salute was a powerful reminder of the strength and dedication of our men and women in uniform!
