WASHINGTON D.C. – March 17, 2021, Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC.

The over-all winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners nation-wide.

This contest is open to all high school students in the 14th Congressional District.

Art works entered in the contest may be up to 26” x 26” x 4”, including the frame. The art work may be

• Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
• Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
• Collage
• Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
• Mixed Media
• Computer Generated Art
• Photography

All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution.

How to Enter the 2020 Art Competition

1. Review the 2021 Rules for Students and Teachers.
2. Complete the 2021 Student Release Form.
3. Submit the Student Release Form and any other required materials to any of our district offices beginning Wednesday, March 31, 2021. 
4. Final date for submissions is Friday, April 16, 2021
5. If you prefer to participate virtually, artwork may also be emailed to janet.brown@mail.house.gov.
