Over the last four years, the American people have suffered one self-inflicted disaster after another—from the chaos at our southern border, to our crime ridden streets, to a cost-of living crisis that decimated working families from sea to shining sea—leaving America weaker, more divided, and more vulnerable than it has been in generations.

This week, our offices received a flood of questions about why eliminating the tax on Social Security benefits wasn’t included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. It’s a fair question, and one that deserves a clear answer.

Under the rules of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, Congress uses the reconciliation process to make changes to federal spending, revenues, and the debt limit. These changes must align with the annual budget resolution passed by both the House and the Senate. However, reconciliation is legally prohibited from making direct changes to Social Security. That’s why any effort to eliminate the tax on Social Security income cannot be included in this kind of legislation.

That said, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act does include positive steps: a $4,000 tax deduction for Americans aged 65 and older, and measures to eliminate taxes on tip income and overtime pay. These are victories for working Americans and our seniors, but I know there’s still more work to do.

Republicans in Congress and President Trump have made it clear—we are committed to ending the unfair tax on Social Security. That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor H.R. 1040, the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act, introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie. This bill would end the taxation of Social Security benefits once and for all.

Folks, you’ve worked your entire lives, paid into the system, and played by the rules. You shouldn't be taxed again just because you’re drawing what you’ve already earned. The American people are overtaxed and underappreciated. That’s why I’ll keep fighting for simpler, fairer tax policy that puts more money back in your pocket, where it belongs.

Last year, the Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reinstated a burdensome rule under the Clean Air Act known as the “Once In, Always In” policy. Under this rule, once a facility is labeled a “major source” of emissions, it’s locked into that classification permanently, regardless of how much it cleans up its act or invests in emissions-reducing technology.

Let me be clear: this rule is anti-innovation, anti-investment, and anti-American.

It punishes progress. Even if a facility goes above and beyond to reduce emissions and modernize its equipment, the federal government refuses to recognize that progress. There’s no path to reclassification, no credit for doing the right thing, just more red tape, more bureaucracy, and less incentive to improve.

That’s not how we should be treating our job creators.

House Republicans have taken action to overturn this misguided rule. Our legislation restores a commonsense approach, one that actually encourages facilities to reduce emissions by allowing them to reclassify as “area sources” once they meet the appropriate thresholds. That’s a win for American industry and a win for our environment.

The Biden EPA’s one-size-fits-all mandate stifles innovation, drives up costs, and ultimately makes it harder, not easier, to achieve real environmental progress. Republicans are committed to a better way: unleashing American ingenuity, cutting unnecessary red tape, and protecting both our economy and our environment.
