Fentanyl Crisis

fentanyl

More than 105,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in the 12 months that ended this past October, with two out of three linked to the scourge of fentanyl almost entirely being smuggled across our Southern border.

American federal agents have seized more than 10,500 pounds of the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl along the southern border this fiscal year, with one U.S. border region seeing an astounding 323% increase in the last three years.

Fentanyl can be 50 times stronger than heroin, and it is easier for drug cartels to manufacture because it can be made from common chemicals.

Drug cartels are extremely violent and tactical. They have built intricate tunnels that allow them to smuggle drugs into our country undetected, they often send floods of migrants to the southern border to overwhelm Border Patrol agents, and they force their migrants to act as drug mules, carrying marijuana and poppy seeds so their growers can operate on American soil.

Unless the Biden Administration reverses its open-door policy and failed border security agenda, illegal immigrants and transnational criminal organizations will continue to flood across our open border, and every state – no matter where it is located – will be a border state in Biden’s America.

There have been over 100,000 deaths...that's about 300 deaths a day. Our children are dying. Joe Biden and Democrats need to WAKE UP and address this crisis. That is why I have co-sponsored the Stop Fentanyl Border Crossings Act, which would use Title 42 authority to expedite the expulsion process of illegal border crossers due to the immediate public health risks posed by the record amounts of fentanyl and other deadly and addictive drugs crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

9/11

Sunday will be twenty-one years since the tragic day that we will never forget.

On that fateful Tuesday morning of September 11, 2001, our nation was attacked by lawless terrorists. We remember the innocent victims who lost their lives and the courageous service men and woman who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, in an effort to protect America from those who are determined to destroy our cherished freedoms.

None of us will forget where we were twenty one years ago, or the horrific images that ran across our TV screens.

Throughout schools, restaurants, offices, and homes, Americans watched with horror as our towers fell. While the tragedy and devastation rocked our country, many heroes ran towards the chaos to rescue their countrymen and fight the flames. It is those men and women, those heroes, who I choose to remember as we reflect on the 21st Anniversary of September 11th.

We must never forget the thousands of American citizens, firemen, police, members of the military, and first responders who lost their lives in the largest terrorist attack ever perpetrated on American soil. However, this did not cause America to break or bend.

We rose from the ashes of that attack and launched a two-decade-long crusade to achieve justice for the victims and to punish the jihadist radicals who slaughtered our fellow Americans. We sent a message that America will never cower in the face of evil.

I hope you will remember the sacrifices and legacies of all the fallen men and women who lost their lives that day and those that lost their lives in the wars of Iraq and Afghanistan. Their courage and strength allowed us to come together as a nation following the horror of that attack. God bless the fallen and all our heroes who answered the call.

Queen Elizabeth II

Our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II represented what it means to lead with conviction, selflessness, and true faith in God and in her people. At 25 years old, she assumed the throne following the death of her father, King George VI. It was her steady stewardship, including meetings with 14 different U.S. presidents, that brought the United States and the United Kingdom closer together and strengthened our ‘special relationship’ that thrives to this day. She is an iconic leader. May she Rest In Peace.

This week, we had a great meeting with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and local stakeholders to discuss flood control projects in our region. Proud to work with my Houston area delegation on this critical issue.
